The Rhythm of Stillness

Jessica Pankratz - September 2014

September 1 - 30, 2014

About 3 years ago, I had a personal awakening that the only thing standing in my way of being an artist was a limiting belief that I couldn’t do it. Once I realized this, I started feeling compelled to create art every spare moment I had. My typical process is to allow intuition to guide me, meaning to trust that what is meant to “come through me” will happen when it’s time. I don’t force the creative process; rather, I live my day to day life, developing the muscle of being present and seeing what I’m drawn to. This has taken a great deal of trust that what is mean to be will be. What will typically happen is I will feel compelled to draw a certain image or object that I see in my day to day life. Sometimes a spiritual/religious statue will catch my attention and I will photograph it (or purchase it) and then draw it later. Other times, I will be having an experience that feels significant and I will feel moved to draw some part of that experience.

The title of this show is “The Rhythm of Stillness.” The name came to me while reflecting on the 19 pieces that were to be in this show. I had just completed the final piece and it seemed to symbolize the culmination of several moments of focused stillness and the seeming contradiction of so much movement. The final piece also shares the name of the show.

Hope you enjoy the show. There will be an artist reception on Sunday, September 21st, from 5-7. I will provide a selection of snacks. Other snacks and beverages can be purchased from Mother Fool’s.
