December 2025

Laurel Statz is a painter and Madison area native. Her work, while figurative, is influenced by abstraction and minimalism. The Full House Quintet will perform live to celebrate the release of their new CD.

The group--three retired UW Music Faculty, a retired UW scientist, and a UW Doctoral Music graduate--rehearse weekly at Joan Wildman\'s house. They write their own music for their highly unusual instrumental combination: viola, two bassoons, keyboards, and bass. They improvise in various jazz styles and also in the classical idiom so that the result is an interesting combination of \'orphan folk musics\'.

The CD is a compilation of living room recordings throughout the past two years, some of which will be performed live at the show. Because of the goals of the group, however, new music is continually being written and rehearsed, so expect that approximately 40% of the Mother Fools performance material will be newer than the CD!

Dick Lottridge and Willy Walter play bassoons, Diedre Buckley plays viola, Joan Wildman plays synthesizer, and Doug Hill plays bass.
