"Permutations of Red Pine"

September 2026

A Red Pine tree was planted at the corner of 212 Merry Street in the late 60s that evolved over the decades into a cooperative household. We are making it a place for comity and creativity; Clarity and the imagination; we change detritus of early 21st century late stage capitalism into art, shrine, paintings, music, sculptures, urban Permaculture and homesteading experiments. We appreciate the used, the worn out, ever crumbling and reassembling; as we all are all the time.

FAGHAT is well known to Madison music fans for their loopy sludge/surf/glam rock.

J Scott Franklin sounds like a mixture of Soul Coughing, Drums and Tuba and Velvet Underground. Scott is a vocalist, guitarist and trumpet player who ties this all together with a loop pedal which allows him to build songs on the fly.

"The words come first". Scott says that nearly every song he writes begins with words and is followed by music. He's writing sound tracks to poems, painting life with words, searching for phrases that give us a sense of color and depth while striving to recreate personal memories for the listeners. "I'm not giving you my experience, I'm giving you a place to put yours."
