Laurel Statz is a painter and Madison area native. Her work, while figurative, is influenced by abstraction and minimalism. The paintings often have a quick and instinctual nature, capturing just what’s needed. While she often times herself to eliminate extra details and over-precision, she has ventured into more detailed works as well. Laurel does not attach narrative to her pieces. Rather, she thinks of them like a journaling process for her scatter-brained psyche. The figures in the pieces are meant to be processing tools for the artist and the viewer. The Crooked Mouth is a band of divergent styles with the contributions of five songwriters doing many musical duties. Though there are string instruments and a storytelling sensibility, this isn't alt country. This isn't alt folk or alt rock. It's something in-between. Melody and lyric come together in often unusual ways without clutter or extraneous decor. The Crooked Mouth cuts its own groove.

Wendy Schneider performs stripped down rock songs reminiscent of her Madison band, Bugatti Type 35. Raspy, heartfelt vocals behind sometimes dark-sided lyrics and a clean electric sound that is simple and strong.
