Laurel Statz is a painter and Madison area native. Her work, while figurative, is influenced by abstraction and minimalism. The paintings often have a quick and instinctual nature, capturing just what’s needed. While she often times herself to eliminate extra details and over-precision, she has ventured into more detailed works as well. Laurel does not attach narrative to her pieces. Rather, she thinks of them like a journaling process for her scatter-brained psyche. The figures in the pieces are meant to be processing tools for the artist and the viewer. Uh, some of us have serious musical training (Jennifer and may Claire), others have trained themselves; Dave and Chris and Blair. Some of us think the real reason we are in the band is to provide a humorous respite from an otherwise grizzly assault on the urban sensibilities of our selected audiences. Yes that\'s a ramble but the GIST of it is that we just want to play the tunes that Blair writes and have no one tell us how to do it. So thanks for the hands-off approach Blair. Thanks also to my band mates for a great creative atmosphere. Let\'s rock the lower near west side of wherever!
