Laurel Statz is a painter and Madison area native. Her work, while figurative, is influenced by abstraction and minimalism. The paintings often have a quick and instinctual nature, capturing just what’s needed. While she often times herself to eliminate extra details and over-precision, she has ventured into more detailed works as well. Laurel does not attach narrative to her pieces. Rather, she thinks of them like a journaling process for her scatter-brained psyche. The figures in the pieces are meant to be processing tools for the artist and the viewer. Come down to Mother Fools on Friday, November 6th for a special evening of traditional bluegrass.

The performance will feature the Bob Black on banjo and Paul Kienitz on fiddle. Bob is a master of the five string banjo and a veteran of Bill Monroe's Blue Grass Boys. He has also performed with Ricky Skaggs, The Whites, Emmylou Harris, Norman Blake and Rhonda Vincent. Paul Kienitz is one of the finest traditional bluegrass fiddle players in the upper Midwest. He has been a long standing member of the award-winning Nob Hill Boys and Paul was also a featured performer with a reunion of Blue Grass Boys at the 2008 Sugar Maple Festival.

This evening, Bob and Paul will play all of the tunes from the classic "Kenny Baker Plays Bill Monroe" recording. (Bob was the banjo player on the original recording). The boys will also play a variety of songs as well in the second set.

Bob and Paul will be joined by Mark Hembree on bass (Blue Grass Boys, Nashville Bluegrass Band, Dreadful Snakes)Brian Ray on mandolin (This is the Squirrel Hunters) and John Fabke on guitar (Nob Hill Boys).
