Fri, Jun 12 Starving in the Belly of the Whale w/ Original Mechanical Mouse - $6

Dayton Ohio’s Starving in the Belly of the Whale is a time-tested indie folk act with heart. With four (almost five) LPs under their belts, as well as a soundtrack EP, the band continue to diligently hone their songcraft and inspire new audiences. With their forthcoming, crowd-funded album Missionaries and Imposters, which drops November 22, the band continues to explore their genre, drawing on life experiences and environmental inspiration to color their output and push them in new and exciting directions." - GHETTOBLASTER magazine

Original Mechanical Mouse
Joel Collinsworth is a third generation writer who struggled with short story publishing for nearly a decade. In 2001 he returned to college, got a couple short stories published in the literary journal, and won the Freshman Writing Prize. Joel began songwriting in 2006 and in 2010 began using the band name Original Mechanical Mouse. Influences include, Elliot Smith, Nick Drake, Andrew Bird, The Shins, Jim James, Conor Oberst, Andy Hull, Aly Spaltro, and many other artists from the modern folk genre. He is unsigned with over three-hundred original songs, an EP, and numerous songs online.

When you hear the name of Joel Collinsworth's solo project, Original Mechanical Mouse, it's tempting to conjure the mechanical mouse from the Tom & Jerry cartoon (used by Jerry to fool Tom). But concentrate instead on original, for it's Collinsworth's uniqueness that sets OMM apart. The acoustic guitar arrangements can be haunting and spare (like John Frusciante's To Record Only Water for Ten Days) or quietly tender like Grandaddy's "Underneath The Weeping Willow." …. “Oh Yeah, Basement Tapes! is a work of art recalling Neil Young at his most beautiful.” – Bryan Cahpin Chicago Indie Music Live

Sat, Jun 13 Dumpy Jug Bumpers w/ Boo Bradley - $7

The Dumpy Jug Bumpers are a string band from Minneapolis, MN that brings back the reckless sounds of country blues, ragtime, and jug band music from the era of shellac 78's. Utilizing resophonic guitar, kazoos, harmonica, double bass and the plunky mandolin-banjo, they transform any stage or street corner into a barrelhouse romp, as their hot licks get you shakin’ and stomping’.

Boo Bradley is good time two-man Hokum junk and jive orchestra who are as fun to watch as they are to listen to. Meeting up in 2007, Boo Mullarky and Bradley Selz took to Madison, Wisconsin's illustrious State Street with the full intention of bringing the rollicking sounds and antics of the early 20th century jug bands back to life. They quickly became known as the go-to act for fun in the sun at Madison's legendary farmers' market. Soon they were being asked to perform at festivals and shows around the state, sharing the stage with well-known roots performers such as the Carolina Chocolate Drops and Frank Fairfield. This refreshing “little jug band that could” features a delightfully rich and clunky sonic pallete that is sure to cure what ails you!
