Laurel Statz is a painter and Madison area native. Her work, while figurative, is influenced by abstraction and minimalism. The paintings often have a quick and instinctual nature, capturing just what’s needed. While she often times herself to eliminate extra details and over-precision, she has ventured into more detailed works as well. Laurel does not attach narrative to her pieces. Rather, she thinks of them like a journaling process for her scatter-brained psyche. The figures in the pieces are meant to be processing tools for the artist and the viewer. Minneapolis based poet and playwright Lisa Brimmer brings together a collaborative group, High Society. The group melds a jazz based, improvisational music style with Brimmer-s voice. For one night only, an episode of High Society will be brought to you featuring Evan Montgomery, Guitar- (Minneapolis, MN- Projects include: Lulu-s Playground, Evan Montgomery Quintet, Jana Nyberg Group) and recent 2012 Drummer of the Year, MAMA Award Winning Paul Kennedy (Madison, WI- Projects include: Sexy Ester, Mulligan Stew).

In High Society, every episode is different. We improvise in order to create a world illuminated and transcendent of the one we live in, however reminiscent. We laugh, we cry and we heal.
