Laurel Statz is a painter and Madison area native. Her work, while figurative, is influenced by abstraction and minimalism. Forming in January of 2014, The Emmylous broke into the Madison, Wisconsin music scene as a trio of female acoustic folk/rock musicians. Their singer-songwriter vibe quickly gave them a home at area coffee houses in and around the Madison area. With three layers of vocal harmonies, band members Katie Lowery, Ryn Thoen, and Rachel Leuzinger create soothing and interesting blends to songs both well-known and originals.

Their first album, currently in the works, is an arrangement of original songs carefully written to touch on both serious and amusing life happenings.

Having first met through church, The Emmylous got their start by attending open mics in the area. Lead vocalist and guitarist, Katie Lowery, pulled talent from her church home in order to try edgier material and bring a fuller sound to what would have been solo performances at area open mics. The band was formed by adding vocalist Rachel Leuzinger and Ryn Thoen, on keyboard, accordion, and vocals. Ed Boswell, a friend of all three, provides percussion and is at times jokingly referred to as the ‘Lou’ in The Emmylous.
