Laurel Statz is a painter and Madison area native. Her work, while figurative, is influenced by abstraction and minimalism. The paintings often have a quick and instinctual nature, capturing just what’s needed. While she often times herself to eliminate extra details and over-precision, she has ventured into more detailed works as well. Laurel does not attach narrative to her pieces. Rather, she thinks of them like a journaling process for her scatter-brained psyche. The figures in the pieces are meant to be processing tools for the artist and the viewer. Dave Fallow and John Fabke are known for producing, hosting and tightly scripting the only 10 minute "Radio Naturalist" segment in the known universe for WORT 89.9FM on Tuesday morning's "Pastures of Plenty". This one-of-a-kind-not-to-miss show at our favorite Madison venue is guaranteed to both stun and amaze the casual listener as John and the "Bird Guy" perambulate extemporaneously through their collective repertoires of bluegrass, jazz, pop, not-so-pop, field hollers, throat singing, blues, folksong and TV themes on guitar, fiddle, mandolin and banjo. This program is morally good.
