December 2025

Laurel Statz is a painter and Madison area native. Her work, while figurative, is influenced by abstraction and minimalism. The paintings often have a quick and instinctual nature, capturing just what’s needed. While she often times herself to eliminate extra details and over-precision, she has ventured into more detailed works as well. Laurel does not attach narrative to her pieces. Rather, she thinks of them like a journaling process for her scatter-brained psyche. The figures in the pieces are meant to be processing tools for the artist and the viewer. She hopes that seeing these figures helps the...

The Story of Anne & Rose:
Anne Heaton and Rose Polenzani were both raised in Wilmette, IL---in the John Hughes suburbs that brought you "Pretty in Pink", "The Breakfast Club", and "Sixteen Candles". Rose's sister worked at Anne's favorite ice cream shop. Both Rose and Anne bought their Slurpees and big league chews at the 24-hour-food-and-deli mart. But somehow they never crossed paths---until now.

Anne moved to Rose's city of Somerville, MA from NYC last year, just as Rose's new collaborative show SUB ROSA was getting underway; Anne soon became a crowd favorite. The show features a rotating cast of 10-15 musical guests, often showcasing the unsung (and sometimes undeveloped) instrumental talents of Boston's singer/songwriters.

Meanwhile, Anne called Rose in to sing harmony on her new record---specifically on a song called "Where Your Scar Is." This session led to a self-directed video featuring that song, which was spotlighted this summer on YouTube and viewed over 400,000 times!

Both artists are celebrating new records on this tour: Anne's upcoming January 2009 release "Blazing Red" and Rose's October 2008 release "When the River Meets the Sea". Rose and Anne will collaborate at these Midwestern shows on vocals, piano, guitar, ukulele and glockenspiel.

Anne Heaton, featured in the PBS Television Special "Portrait of An Artist", was recently a finalist in Mountain Stage NewSong, Falcon Ridge, and Rocky Mountain Folks Festival Competitions. Her music has been called "tender, amusing, barbed, and spiritual" by The Washington Post.

Rose Polenzani, winner of "Best New Song" in Mountain Stage's NewSong Competition 2008 (for "You Were Drunk"), has been called "Haunting and magnificent" by the Washington Post. Her new album is a work of spontaneous artistry and "Orchestral Americana," recorded live in the studio with the award winning Boston band Session Americana.
