Laurel Statz is a painter and Madison area native. Her work, while figurative, is influenced by abstraction and minimalism. The paintings often have a quick and instinctual nature, capturing just what’s needed. While she often times herself to eliminate extra details and over-precision, she has ventured into more detailed works as well. Laurel does not attach narrative to her pieces. Rather, she thinks of them like a journaling process for her scatter-brained psyche. The figures in the pieces are meant to be processing tools for the artist and the viewer. Lost Cause Magazine:

---The Doc's Kids' show at was one part stand up (or in some cases fall down) comedy and one part an exhibition of music from their CD's. One attendee at last night's Doc's Kids show complained after the show that her face hurt from all the smiling and laughter. Normally I don't take a camera to gigs, but boy, do I regret that now. This show, was oftentimes a parody of mainstream rock shows and was just crying out for multimedia documentation. I've become one of the main spokespeople for these guys, and I stand by my words! I'm disappointed that the press has not generated a wider audience---yet. These are some great, crazy and fun shows!---
