Laurel Statz is a painter and Madison area native. Her work, while figurative, is influenced by abstraction and minimalism. The paintings often have a quick and instinctual nature, capturing just what’s needed. While she often times herself to eliminate extra details and over-precision, she has ventured into more detailed works as well. Laurel does not attach narrative to her pieces. Rather, she thinks of them like a journaling process for her scatter-brained psyche. The figures in the pieces are meant to be processing tools for the artist and the viewer. The present incarnation of Hugh's acoustic trio features once again the stunning soloing of violinist Julia McConahay. A fine singer-songwriter in her own right, Julia finds the perfect platform for showcasing her improvisational skills in the context of Hugh's inventive and philosophical song poems. The result is a high energy performance which is not afraid to also linger in pretty passages. Experiencing ecstasy in your own life is the goal - we're just here to help you along.

A good audience may be rewarded with some celtic fiddling as well. This time we have added percussionist Jesse Greist (yes, another fine singer-songwriter too) adding extra depth and articulation to the rythymic portion of the music.

Come early for some special musical treats, as we may be displaying our solo skills as well...
