Laurel Statz is a painter and Madison area native. Her work, while figurative, is influenced by abstraction and minimalism. The paintings often have a quick and instinctual nature, capturing just what’s needed. While she often times herself to eliminate extra details and over-precision, she has ventured into more detailed works as well. Laurel does not attach narrative to her pieces. Rather, she thinks of them like a journaling process for her scatter-brained psyche. The figures in the pieces are meant to be processing tools for the artist and the viewer. Mark Ambrose has traveled throughout Texas and the Southwest entertaining audiences with his wit, storytelling and most of all, his music. Any Ambrose show is sure to get you laughing, crying and wanting more. His first CD, "Shadow on the Moon," showcases his talent at communicating emotion. His new CD, "Put the Hammer Down," was recorded with Gillian Welch and David Rawlings at RCA Studio B in Nashville. Welch plays bass throughout and sings harmonies on several tracks. Rawlings plays guitar and produced the record. Mark can also be heard playing guitar on Gillian Welch's latest release, "Soul Journey."
