el guante, Stephanie Rearick and Aporia. Benefit for The Madison Million Worker March
Benefit for The Madison Million Worker MarchThe Madison Million Worker March Committee will use funds raised to (1) subsidize travel costs for Madison-area people to participate in the march, and also to (2) organize a solidarity event in Madison to promote the message of this march.
el guante is a Madison-based emcee and spoken word poet currently working on his second album, \"vanishing point.\" His music focuses on content and poetry, and is sometimes political, sometimes tongue-in- cheek, and always original. Influences include the Pharcyde, Boots Riley, Mos Def, Cee-lo, Andre from Outkast and Saul Williams.
Stephanie Rearick is a pianist, vocalist, songwriter, sometimes trumpeter. She is one of the founding members of Madison, Wisconsin\'s now-defunct garage-cabaret, circus-rock outfit The Coma Savants. She regularly performs solo on the aforementioned instruments plus a little electronic manipulation.
Rearick\'s style is pop-ish, classically-influenced art music sometimes tinged with cabaret.
She won the Madison Area Music Awards for best classical artist and best classical album for 2003.
Currently calling Madison, Wisconsin their home, Aporia is a passionate, acoustic rock/folk rock trio with incredibly eclectic musical influences and tastes and an energetic live show. Their song styles range from mellow folk songs to harder edged rock, and in addition to their unique love songs, they also don\'t shy away from tackling stickier topics like politics and social action.
The two original members of Aporia found one another while attending Edgewood College in early 2003. They are Justin Woodward (guitar/vocals) and Emily Mills (percussion/vocals). Initially, the set list included mostly songs from Justin\'s impressively enormous knowledge of covers and a hand full of his originals. The duo has since evolved to the point of being able to play a normal length set of just their own originals (of which Emily is now an equal partner in writing) plus a few choice, retooled covers. They also added a third member in July of 2004, bassist Morey Burnard, which brought the music to a whole new level and helped improve their live show by leaps and bounds.
