Laurel Statz is a painter and Madison area native. Her work, while figurative, is influenced by abstraction and minimalism. The paintings often have a quick and instinctual nature, capturing just what’s needed. While she often times herself to eliminate extra details and over-precision, she has ventured into more detailed works as well. Laurel does not attach narrative to her pieces. Rather, she thinks of them like a journaling process for her scatter-brained psyche. The figures in the pieces are meant to be processing tools for the artist and the viewer. Marques Bovre, Cris Plata and Shauna Wells team up to give you a great
evening of entertainment with some of Madison\'s best songwriters. Marques
Bovre is well known from his band \"Marques Bovre and the Evil Twins\" which
enjoyed a large following throughout the Mid-west and national praise from
Billboard Magazine. Bovre is flying solo these days and just released a new
CD, \"Marques Bovre\'s Yarn: The Great Unraveling\".

Cris Plata is well known for his original brand of Tex-Mex music and his
band \"Cris Plata and the Extra Hots\". A talented songwriter and performer,
Plata\'s soulful style really shines with his solo performances. He recently
released a CD, \"Life is Hard\".

The evening\'s opening performer will be local singer/songwriter Shauna
Wells. Wells performs lyrcial acoustic pop music with a jazz edge and a
contemporary style.
