Artists and Artisans

Chele Ramos - September 2022

September 1 - 30, 2022
Reception: Sat, September 3, 4:00 pm

Biography: I go by Chele Ramos, and I am a Madison raised, self taught portrait artist. I have been painting for about 5 1/2 years now, but have enjoyed drawing since I was young. I grew up in Madison, took a 7 year hiatus on the west coast, and eventually found my way back to my hometown where I started my family and began my art career. My art focus has been portraiture, but as I grow my work has really become more about human emotion and mental health awareness. Going forward, Mental Health Awareness will be my main focus. I feel that there are a lot of broken people who don’t even know how broken they are or how to deal with it. I hope to bring light to this situation, help people to be less afraid to have hard conversations, and spread hope with my art. I paint with several different mediums including watercolor, acrylics, oils, pastels, graphite, and charcoal. Recently, I have been working with Dane Arts Mural Arts to learn the art of mural painting, and with these new skills I hope to spread my art and my message to a larger audience.

Artist Statement: As an artist I feel that it is my obligation to open people’s eyes in some way. I feel that art should induce a strong emotion, create a new train of thought, or aid in human understanding. I strive to create beautiful portraits and paintings that, either, allow one to experience a different perspective, or induce a loving memory of someone (human or animal,) for the viewer to treasure, always.

Show Description - Artists and Artisans: Art makes the world a more beautiful place and without it, life might be unbearable. For that reason, I chose to highlight some of the amazing Artists and Artisans that live and work in our community here in Madison. I painted portraits of painters, craftsmen, sculptors, muralists, brew masters and more. I hope you enjoy the show!
