The Art of Place
Lauren Wells - August 2010Artist Statement: Madison is my current home, but I can assure you that it is not where I will reside forever. A self-proclaimed wanderer, I aspire to visit many countries and live in several cities. I have traveled since I was young, and hope to never stop seeking adventures both across the U.S. and abroad. But it is my goal to bring forth this somewhat neglected beauty and share it with anyone and everyone who's interested. You will notice that few of my works are of the major tourist attractions of a place, but rather the simple details of the cities I've visited: the little things which give a city its character. A window with laundry in Perugia. A car tied with ribbon in Rome, for newlyweds to be sent away. An old abandoned church above the vineyards of Vienna. An old Ford truck in Alaska. Welding and grafitti in Berlin. By walking cities with my Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ35 in hand and no map to guide me, I discover new places and the beauty around every corner. I hope you enjoy my discoveries! -- |
