Title: Art by Tamara
Artist: Tamara Tsurkan
My name is Tamara Tsurkan, I was born in Ukraine, and now live in Madison WI, USA. I started painting when I was a child, and attended an Art School in Ukraine between 1987 and 1989. However, I didn't pursue a career of an artist at that time, instead opting for a college degree in math and computer science, and a teaching career after that.
I only began painting again in 2005 after we bought a house and I wanted to have several paintings to decorate the rooms. Rather than buying them, I thought I'd try to create my own. Soon I realized that I really enjoyed it, and in a few months I found myself devoting most of my free time to art - painting, reading about and trying different styles and techniques, and learning as much as I could. In 2006 I took several classes in acrylic and oil painting at the University of Wisconsin and watercolor classes at the Madison Area Technical College.
I've tried several different styles and techniques, and currently mainly work in two rather unrelated styles – contemporary and folk art. These paintings often have a bit of mystical feel to them.
I have also been participating in art shows and fairs throughout Wisconsin and Illinois, including City of Baraboo Art Fair, Mount Horeb Art Fair, Madison Audubon Art Fair, Monona Art Fair, SummerFest, Geneva Lake Art Fair, annual art and craft fairs in Oak Park, IL, Naperville, IL, New Berlin, WI.
I am currently a member of Wisconsin Regional Arts Association (WRAA), Madison Art Guild (MAG), Wisconsin Visual Artist (WVA), Art Doll Sculpture Group (ADSG) and Self Representing Artists (EBSQ). Several of my paintings received a State Exhibit Award through the Wisconsin Regional Art Program.
My works are represented at several art stores, including Bramble Patch in New Glarus, River Valley Trading Co in Blanchardville, and Absolutely Art, Orange Tree Imports in Madison and North Star Trading Co in Alpine, CA,. I have also been selling my works online, and my works are now in private collections in several states throughout the US as well as in Canada, France, Germany, Russia and Ukraine.
I also do commissioned abstract paintings. You can contact me any time!
