Title: YES! (to tulips)
Artist: Mary Williams
I photographed tulips during one rainy April week as I walked through the neighborhood around my son’s house on Oakridge Avenue while my granddaughters napped. Through this and other visits, I have come to love Madison and especially this neighborhood with its inspired gardeners. Although I live in San Francisco, I thought they – these photographs – belong here.
Since retiring from my practice of pediatric dermatology, photography has become an ever more consuming occupation. Like my medical profession, it involves an effort to abstract or decode some truth(s) from a sea of visual information. These images were taken using a hand-held Canon 10D camera with a Tamron 28-300mm lens, and modified to varying extent in Adobe Photoshop.
I am donating all proceeds from this show, including my costs, to an organization I have been involved with for over 25 years, the Foundation for Ichthyosis and Related Skin Types (F.I.R.S.T.). This non-profit is devoted to helping individuals and families affected by these rare skin disorders through education, member assistance, and research.
