Title: Dots & Lines
Artist: Bala Thiagarajan
Dots & Lines features one of a kind art work combining the colors & patterns influenced by my Indian Heritage with contemporary abstract art.
Henna or Mehndi is a form of temporary body art common in India, Middle East and North Africa. The leaves of the henna plant are ground into a paste and used to create exquisite patterns on the skin, particularly the hands and feet.
Kolams are patterns that women from Tamil Nadu, a state in South India, draw outside their homes everyday. Typically drawn with rice flour, these intricate patterns are made with varying numbers of dots with lines wrapped around them in diverse ways. They are usually symmetric with no clear beginning or end.
Here I present Kolams painted with acrylics on canvas & sealed with varnish for everlasting wall decor. Intricate Henna style freehand designs are painted on upcycled pine wood cabinet panels , with acrylic paints and sealed with a varnish.
I also do custom art work and henna body art.
All profits (including Mother Fool’s commission) to benefit the Dane County Rape Crisis Center.
